Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Tuesday, October 12th:
UPS has announced a new commitment to invest in girls and young women. The $2 million program, announced at the Clinton Global Initiative, will give girls and young women the tools and platforms to become leaders on environmental sustainability, the Millennium Development Goals, and community development issues. The program will be carried out with UPS’s longtime partner, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.

Cleantech Open, the world’s largest clean technology business competition, has announced three finalists to represent the North Central U.S. at the national competition in November. Winners are EarthClean Corp, Xolve, Inc., and Silicon Solar Solutions. In addition, NewWater won the regional sustainability award, given to the team that most effectively incorporated a triple bottom line approach to scaling their business. Each regional finalist won a “Startup in a Box” prize package of cash and in-kind services worth $30,000 dollars, and the chance to win the grand prize of $250,000 dollars at the Cleantech National awards.
