(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) November 19, 2010 - The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) newly proposed revisions to its Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims (Green Guides) will have substantial impacts on renewable energy marketing. The updated Green Guides promise to apply a more rigorous standard to environmental claims used in all forms of marketing, promotional materials, and digital and electronic media. In the 12 years since the last update of the Green Guides, the renewable energy and carbon offset markets in the U.S. have exploded. Total Green-e Energy Certified retail transactions to customers reached 18 million MWh in 2009, a 43% increase from 2008 that represented 62% of all retail sales in the voluntary market. The proposed update to the Green Guides directly addresses this growing market, articulating appropriate claims relating to the sale and use of renewable energy certificates and carbon offsets, as well as new standards for the use of certification marks and eco-logos.
In this one-hour webinar, our distinguished panel of experts will discuss the impacts of the new Green Guides on generators, marketers, purchasers, and product manufacturers. Join us for a timely and engaging discussion on how to prepare for more stringent enforcement, and how to avoid costly litigation and accusations of "greenwashing" in your marketing claims.
