Students unite for holiday food drive

Every year LaSalle Community Comprehensive High School holds a canned food drive around the holidays to benefit those facing a tough holiday season.

This year’s canned food drive happens to be today, with our city streets filled with snow, several more cm continuing to fall, with city crews out trying to clear the existing snow from the roads, and with the sidewalks and walkways still icy and bumpy in many neighborhood homes! I’ll be driving some of the kids around and it’ll be interesting to see them fight the elements in their quest to collect food for the needy.

With an increasing number of companies now exploring the value aspects of sustainability, one might think the largest hurdle of business sustainability has been cleared.  However, individual business awareness is the just the beginning of this story.  The chapters that lie ahead will hopefully bring cohesion to the business community as a whole.

What Does ISO 26000 Mean to Small Businesses?

The recently released ISO 26000  international standard on social responsibility (SR), provides guidance on implementing social responsibility for both private and public companies.  Targeting the areas that will deliver the greatest business sustainability value, critics question the organizational breath of coverage, specifically its application to small businesses.
