Nominations Open Today for 18th Annual Corporate Citizenship Awards
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 3, 2017 /3BL Media/ — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation today began the nomination process for its annual Citizens Awards, which recognize businesses for their positive impact on society.
Did you know that at the Zappos.com headquarters in downtown Las Vegas, they have a clever office recycling program? They removed individual trash cans that were once placed at each of their 2,000 desks to improve recycling habits. Recycling bins are spread throughout the building, including in all open-office spaces and break-rooms on each floor. This effort has encouraged employees to properly sort waste at the recycling stations on each floor, which has successfully decreased waste and increased recycling efforts in the workplace.
From construction projects to daily meals in our cafeterias, we’re committed to making sure the waste we create around the world is reused, recycled or composted. Our efforts are paying off. In 2015, we had a waste diversion rate of over 90% in our offices with over 2,000 people, and, at our Palo Alto headquarters, we diverted 94% of waste from landfill.
At Quest, we process 157 million test requests annually. Transporting those samples requires every car and plane in our fleet. We continually look to make small, green changes that can have a big impact.
Prior to 2014, specimens were transported in Styrofoam coolers. In 2015, we expanded our use of the Quest Specimen Transport System throughout the U.S. This cardboard box with a special liner allows us to ship specimens safely and responsibly. The liner can be reused or returned to the vendor so they can recycle it and provide us with a refund.
