2011 Chevrolet Volt Earns Five-Star Overall Safety Rating

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given the 2011 Chevrolet Volt the first ever five-star designation to an electric vehicle as part of its New Car Assessment Program. For the 2011 test, NHTSA introduced tougher tests and more rigorous requirements for its five-star safety ratings program, such as the introduction of a new side-pole test simulating 20-mph side impact crash into a 10-inch diameter pole. 

Final Lap for EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge


Last week, students from Virginia Tech University took top honors when they were named the overall winners of EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge after designing and building an exceptional extended-range electric vehicle using E85.  The Ohio State University and the University of Waterloo took second and third.

It seems engineers are not the only form of wildlife GM’s vehicle engineering center attracts: Cliff swallows built nests made of mud and took up residence under the building’s overhang…. a space ideally suited for their livelihood.

Since cliff swallows subsist primarily on a diet of insects caught in mid-flight, the reflecting pools on the grounds of the Warren Tech Center are a veritable insect buffet for the swallows, as they prey on bugs attracted to water during hot summer months.
