The statistics sound bleak: 70 percent of employers cite a skills gap between what they need and what’s available in the talent pool and 22 percent of workers in the Pittsburgh region will be retiring within 10 years with no comparably-sized group to replace them.[1]

On Wednesday April 26, the Action Team hosted its third and final national conference call of the school year. Once again, the Action Team’s very own “iron man” and longtime Cincinnati Reds broadcaster George Grande hosted the call – something he has done for every one of these calls since they began in 2009. Joining George was Chicago White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier, who was excited to be joining in the call to help celebrate National Volunteer Week, ( April 23-29.)

Planting a Science Education Seed in Croatia


Every summer, 40 high school students from Croatia and other areas of Europe gather for 10 days to conduct hands-on research projects with mentors who are only a few years their senior. In the small town of Požega nestled in the mountains of eastern Croatia, these students learn about opportunities in science that lie ahead of them.
