'Keep the Tennessee River Watershed Beautiful Month' Results Were Remarkable

22,276 Pounds of Trash Pulled, 8 Proclamations and 25 Award Winners Across Four States

October was recognized as ‘Keep the Tennessee River Watershed Beautiful Month’ across the four states of Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Kentucky—and there was quite a bit to show for it!

The results of the month’s celebrations include 22,276 pounds of trash removed, eight proclamations by four governors and four mayors, and 25 award recipients recognized in the 1st annual Ripple Effect Awards presented by Yamaha Rightwaters™.

AECOM employees joined thousands of volunteers to participate in the 26th annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup in Washington, D.C. The watershed borders the states of Maryland and Virginia, and serves approximately five million people in the region.

Tenke Fungurume Mining, a Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold company, supports the cleanup of the Kelangile River and horticultural training in partnership with local agencies


In a project sponsored by the Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) Social Community Fund, three months of river cleaning was carried out by the University of Lubumbashi for a sound and healthy environment for the population directly affected by the overflowing Kelangile River during the rainy season. This project was supervised by the National Hydraulic Agency of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
