by Josh Sell, QSCC Senior Vice President of Distribution, Logistics, Commodities and Industry Affairs
The Square Deal Blog welcomes Senior Vice President of Distribution, Logistics, Commodities and Industry Affairs, Josh Sell, to the blog. Josh works for Quality Supply Chain Co-op, Inc., also known as QSCC, which is tasked with supporting the Wendy’s supply chain. QSCC is expertly focused on the procurement, logistics and distribution of the delicious ingredients (ahem, like Wendy’s always fresh, never frozen beef*) you find at every Wendy’s restaurant.
Summer is just about coming to a close. Which – is a bummer. We know. But at Wendy’s®, there’s a silver lining: the kickoff to Wendy’s High School Heisman® Scholarship season.
You know we are passionate about a lot. Fresh beef, for instance. Quality ingredients overall. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption®. But for the past 23 years, Wendy’s has also been a champion for students who show incredible passion in overcoming obstacles to be successful in the classroom, on the athletic field and within their communities.
Adoption Recruiter Kerri Byrd on Finding a Forever Family for Each and Every Child in Foster Care
Blog
In her job as an adoption recruiter for Wendy’s Wonderful Kids® (WWK), Kerri Byrd often works long hours. She works continually to earn the trust of children and teenagers who have bounced around the foster care system living in home after home. She fills out paperwork—lots of it. And day after day (which often spills into night), she coordinates with therapists, caseworkers, attorneys and others as she advocates on behalf of her children.
The Wendy’s Family has always felt a responsibility to give back to our communities. Dave Thomas’ vision from day one was a focus on Quality, Doing the Right Thing and Giving Back. Every day our restaurant teams across the country and the employees at our Restaurant Support Center in Dublin, Ohio honor his legacy and strive to make him proud.
When you get familiar with the world of adoption, you form an appreciation for how complex it is. How many hurdles there are. And what kind of impact that has on real children, and real families.
Here at Wendy’s, we are so grateful to have a role model in our founder, Dave Thomas. Not only was he one of the most successful and recognizable restaurateurs in America, he was a dynamic philanthropist. Dave’s success in business is outshined only by his work to raise awareness for foster care adoption and creating the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA). The DTFA is a national public charity, with a mission to find permanent, loving homes for children in the foster care system.
At Wendy’s, we have the privilege of working with some of the world’s best companies who supply everything we need to operate a best in class restaurant system. Our purpose is to provide joy and opportunity through food, family, and community, and we love sharing stories and celebrating suppliers who also embrace a commitment to a higher purpose in the communities in which they operate.
We’ve mentioned before that Give Something Back is one of our brand’s core values, and it’s important that our suppliers embrace that value, too.
Since our founding by Dave Thomas in 1969, we have always operated under a core set of values which begin and end with a commitment to Quality. These values extend beyond the walls of our restaurants, and Restaurant Support Center, to the long-standing, collaborative relationships we have with our trusted suppliers.
EDITORS NOTE: Recently, our culinary team at Wendy’s recognized an opportunity to lower the amount of sodium contained in our grilled chicken and salads. Sodium is a topic we care about and we strive to be a place that provides options for all, and specifically (in this case) for those who are looking for a few items with lower sodium counts. We’re on a journey and proud of the progress we’ve made, so we’re using this blog to explain a bit about how we approached this challenge…you know, to make “fast food” better for you, without sacrificing quality and taste.
Liliana and I invited two colleagues to guest blog about how we approach continually improving our menu, and in this case, our grilled chicken and salads. Meet Jenna and Eryn, two dynamic millennials who love the opportunity they have to bring really delicious and satisfying menu items to life. You can thank Eryn for the recently “renovated” Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Jenna for the Power Mediterranean Salad that is packed with protein and comes in at 450 calories…fully loaded (yeah, that means TWO packets of dressing). ~ Bry
