Solar, wind, natural gas, and planning help stave off energy crisis for parched state.
California's record drought has parched crops, but hasn't yet dimmed lights or choked the flow of electricity, even though the Golden State, with more than 300 dams, has long been a hydroelectricity leader among U.S. states.
Real-time wind data to conserve fuel for airline and increase operational efficiency
SEATTLE, Feb. 17, 2014 /3BL Media/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Qatar Airways today announced a five-year agreement to provide Boeing Wind Updates services for the airline to maximize in-flight operational efficiency. Boeing Wind Updates provides customized, real-time wind and temperature information to aircraft. This data allows for more efficient trajectory prediction during pre-flight operations and continuous optimization in-flight by providing tailored wind information for flight crews and the aircraft flight management system.
In April 2012, the White House announced that the Defense Department was making one of the largest commitments to clean energy in history, by setting a goal to deploy 3 gigawatts of renewable energy — including solar, wind, biomass or geothermal — on Army, Navy and Air Force installations by 2025.
Siemens Government Technologies, Inc., the prime contractor, along with partners AECOM and Bechtel have been awarded four contracts to help the U.S. Army meet its goal of 1 gigawatt of that total — enough energy to power 250,000 homes.
You probably know words such as fracking and hydroelectricity, but how well do you really know the language that helps describe our energy landscape? Take the Energy Quiz, "What You Don't Know About Energy," and find out.
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) yesterday issued its annual scorecard for each state based on multiple factors, including reductions in greenhouse gas, energy codes for buildings and switching to cleaner fuels.
Report shows 29% increase in Green-e Energy certified retail sales in 2012, reaching almost 36 million MWh--enough to power nearly a third of U.S. households for a month
SAN FRANCISCO, CA ,November 8, 2013 /3BL Media/ — Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) announced today the release of the 2012 Green-e® Verification Report, which highlights Green-e certified renewable energy and carbon offset sales in 2012, as well as organizations that participated in Green-e Marketplace to demonstrate their commitment to renewable energy. The report shows a remarkable 29% increase in total Green-e Energy retail sales volume over the previous year, equivalent to nearly 36 million MWh of renewable energy generation. Green-e certified renewable energy sales in the U.S.
Renewable energy has been called impractical for its small scale and large expense compared to conventional power production methods. Now, one area of development is answering those criticisms by getting very big to cut costs. New offshore wind facilities now going online are equal in size to the largest gas- or coal-fired power stations. The world’s largest wind facility, the London Array, located off England’s east coast, produces 630 megawatts of capacity, equal to traditional fossil-fuel power generators.
Wind companies are always trying to making their next turbine spin more efficiently and generate more power than the last, just as car companies are looking for better fuel efficiency and engine power. Advances usually come in small jumps in both cases, with a single percentage improvement cause for celebration.
While Enbridge's history may be firmly rooted in the transportation of carbon-based energy, with more than 160 years of experience in providing natural gas to customers in Ontario and Quebec and more than six decades of transporting western Canadian oil to markets in the American Midwest and Eastern Canada, we have always been a company that looks to the future.
And these days a big piece of that future is renewable energy.
