40 Under 40 :The Faces of Social Change Part 5 of a 5 Part Series

faces-of-social-change1The list of notable changemakers who earned New Leaders Council's annual 40 Under 40 Awards would be incomplete without recognizing those working in the social enterprise sector. As we've witnessed within the not-for-profit, for-profit, coalition and the public sector, boldness and innovation remain key to successfully creating positive social change by means of the social enterprise sector.

In 2003, social entrepreneur Scott Morgan founded Education Pioneers, where he currently serves as CEO. Education Pioneers trains, connects, and inspires a new generation of leaders dedicated to reforming and transforming our nation's educational system so that all students have access to and receive a quality education. Education Pioneers consistently receives over 90% good or excellent ratings from Fellows and Partners; two out of three Education Pioneer alumni ultimately work full-time in the field of education following graduate school.

Social Media Innovator and Broadcast Journalist Amani Channel is an award-winning video producer as well as a specialist in traditional and convergence/new media. In addition to serving as content manager at Public Broadcasting Atlanta for the www.lensonatlanta.org social community, Amani also founded a media consulting, video production company called Visual Eye Media, which provides high definition video production services, media training, and social media solutions for companies, organizations, and individuals.

Change.org founder Ben Rattray has created an online center for social change, leading online communities for 20 major causes ranging from homelessness to women's rights to poverty. Through a team of 100 expert writers and 3,000 not-for-profit partners, Change.org serves as the central platform for launching and promoting movements for social change on the web. The site also provides daily news and information about important social issues, empowering people to take action.
Entrepreneurship is the heart of human nature, the desire to create, the drive to transform. Despite cultural attempts to box us into instructions-followers, by our very nature, we are here to initiate, to produce, to lead ideas into existence.

Each of these young leaders, through their chosen field of endeavor, represents some of the most dedicated champions of change of their generation. Whether political entrepreneurs, business professionals, not-for-profit specialists or social entrepreneurs, their collective effect is writing our shared future. Their significant contributions within their respective sectors, be it public, private, not-for-profit or social enterprise, have not only addressed some of the most crucial challenges our society faces, they have also made stunning innovations and contributions to these very sectors, influencing how change is accomplished.
