A collaboration between a social responsibility organization and Syracuse University is giving students firsthand experience in making a difference while making a profit.

AltruHelp, a social media platform and online community dedicated to supporting volunteering and corporate responsibility, recently announced they are working with the Mary Ann Shaw Center For Public and Community Service (CPCS) at the university. Students will have the opportunity to experience social entrepreneurship and hopefully carry that experience on into their careers.

"It is tremendously exciting to see the impact that the Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises program is having on our students now that they are out in the real world. Today's college students are more involved in their community and more committed to social responsibility than ever before," said Pamela Heintz, associate vice president and director of CPCS in a press release. "By working with AltruHelp, we will be helping to develop a campus-wide model for social entrepreneurship partnering, one that we hope will be replicated on other campuses."

AltruHelp created a skills-based program that utilizes social media and networking to promote and disseminate corporate social responsibility. Their social media toolbox streamlines CSR initiative efficiency to better manage and promote the corporation's results. This results in boosts in sales, employment talent pool and brand equity. AltruHelp is a participant in MassChallenge, a business incubator and entrepreneurship challenge.

The founders of the company are graduates of the university. Students are developing a marketing strategy for a social experiment proving that people like to help others and that there is an impact on a business, at both a societal and personal level.

"The rush people feel when they selflessly help one another is unbeatable! Our mission is simple -- to prove humans enjoy helping others and inspire more altruism," said Mathew Paisner, co-founder and CEO, in a press release. "We see our partnership with Syracuse University as a tremendous step to inspiring altruism across multiple college campuses."
