Honda, Salvation Army Show they Care with Community Luncheon
More than two decades ago, just before Christmas, someone stole all the toys being kept in a South Bay Salvation Army warehouse. After learning of the break-in, a Honda executive in Torrance decided to try to rectify the situation. Honda would organize a holiday party at a hotel and allow the Salvation Army to invite needy people from the community.
On Thursday, Honda held its 23rd annual “Sharing is Caring” Christmas luncheon at the Torrance Marriott Hotel. The Salvation Army invited more than 1,000 people, many of whom have been attending for years. Some were homeless, but many were not. They simply came to enjoy the food and celebrate the holiday, albeit a day late.
