FOX Sports Supports and National Geographic honored as leaders in social responsibility on television
At the Second Annual Social Good Awards Breakfast in New York City, Cynopsis Media recognized FOX Sports Supports as this year's "Social Good Shining Star," while awarding several honorable mentions to programming at National Geographic. The April 7th event honored the television industry's outstanding social responsibility initiatives, for which 21st Century Fox brands received seven nominations.
As the "Social Good Shining Sports Star," FOX Sports Supports took home the top honor for overall charitable sports program. The initiative, which produces on-air engagement such as PSAs, in-game reads, and on-screen graphics across FOX's sports properties, was recognized for its work with its 2015 partners, including Stand Up to Cancer, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Folds of Honor, American Heart Association, AYSO, Movember, and USGA's water conservation efforts. FOX Sports Supports also garnered honorable mention placement for its video, "We are BGCA."
In addition, National Geographic brands received several Honorable Mentions, including Nat Geo Kids' "Mission: Animal Rescue" campaign, National Geographic Channel's "Explorer: Warlords of Ivory" special, which also recently nominated for a 2016 Realscreen Award, and the channel's "Saints & Strangers" series' partnership with Feeding America. The National Geographic Society also won for its #5forBigCats hashtag promotion, which raised $200,000 for Nat Geo's Big Cats Initiative to support on-the-ground conservation efforts in Africa.
Both FOX Sports and Nat Geo WILD were recognized at last year's awards, with Nat Geo WILD's Big Cat Week tying with the USA Network's "Characters Unite" initiative to win the Awareness Campaign or Initiative category. FOX Sports Supports, FOX Sports' charitable initiative, was recognized for its work surrounding the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games, during which FOX Sports provided on-air and online media exposure across its suite of channels via on-air specials, PSA's, and in-person activation. 21CF served as the Presenting Media Sponsor of the 2014 Games, donating an estimated $5 million in on-air and on-the-ground support.
