BALTIMORE, July 29, 2020 /3BL Media/ - Comcast NBCUniversal today announced it has awarded approximately $95,000 in scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year to 38 Maryland students as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. Students are selected for their outstanding community service, academic performance, and leadership skills. The award, funded by the Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation, is a one-time, $2,500 scholarship to be used toward undergraduate education-related expenses.

A look at teachers and students are rising to the challenge of distance learning
On a Friday in mid-March, Jana Maiuri listened as her 6th-grade students engaged in a spirited discussion of the George Orwell classic Animal Farm. They had been preparing for this final student-led seminar all week, and while Maiuri was thrilled to hear their thoughtful questions and well-informed answers, inside, her mind was racing. She had just gotten word that school buildings would be closing for the foreseeable future in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With millions of students across the country forced to shift to study at home, the race is on to get essential resources to those without access. As other industries work to provide online learning access, the paper and packaging sector is uniquely placed to provide analog tools like writing equipment and pop-up corrugated workspaces.
In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom stated that, “All countries must strike a fine balance between protecting health, minimizing economic and social disruption, and respecting human rights.” The COVID-19 global pandemic impacts all sectors of society, to which human rights serve as the cornerstone.
