BJ's Wholesale Club Recognizes Team Members that Get InVOLved

BJ’s Wholesale Club established its Get InVOLved Program in 2009 to recognize its dedicated Team Members that bring to life the company’s core value of Community.

Every year, BJ’s Get InVOLved Program invites Team Members to nominate themselves or their peers for their volunteer efforts in their local communities. A selection committee, comprised of BJ's Team Members throughout its footrprint, reviews the nominations and chooses the top Team Members or Groups that best represent the following categories:

  1. Fundraisers: Those who raise money for the causes that they care about 
  2. Caregivers: Those who work to make others’ lives more comfortable 
  3. MVPs: Those who offer their athletic talents to support children and others in need 
  4. Lifesavers: Those who work to make their communities safer for everyone
  5. Supporters: Those who offer help wherever it is needed 
  6. Collectors: Those who gather and donate the goods that others need 
  7. Multitaskers: Those who volunteer across the board in a variety of venues 
  8. Table-setters: Those who work to ensure meals for those without 
  9. Mentors: Those who act as role models for children and others in need 
  10. Trailblazers: Those who volunteer in unconventional ways
  11. Team: Those who volunteer in any capacity as a group 

BJ’s donates $1,000 to each of the organizations that its Top Volunteers work with in recognition of their volunteerism. In addition, BJ’s Team Members vote for a Volunteer of the Year from the winners to receive a $2,500 donation to their benefitting organization.

Some of the this year's winners include:

  • Volunteer of the Year Jerry Bullock, general manager of the BJ’s in Fayetteville, North Carolina - Bullock was recognized in the Supporter category for his involvement at the local USO for the last three years. He has helped to fulfill the organization’s mission of lifting the spirits of America's troops and their families by supporting the Warriors on the Water, which offers to active duty and Wounded Warriors, the opportunity to partner with a professional angler for two days of bass fishing and ceremonial trophy presentations. Bullock also works with Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, which is made up of single soldiers that work with the community as well as to deliver monthly birthday cupcakes for single soldiers E-5 and below at Ft. Bragg.
  • Steve Allocco, vice president of sales operations solutions in the IT Department at BJ’s Home Office in Westborough, Massachusetts was recogonized in the Lifesaver category. Allocco has been donating platelets for over 10 years to the American Red Cross. Overall he has donated 108 times, which has impacted up to 324 lives. His recognition will benefit the American Red Cross of Worcester to help prevent and relieve suffering, here at home and around the world.
  • Susan Wright who works in the computer room at the BJ’s in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was recognized in the Fundraiser category. She has raised $135,000 in nine years participating in Sam’s Walk for Dreams, an event where all net proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. Sam’s Walk for Dreams was established in memory of Sam Wright of Chester, whose good nature with children inspired his fiancée Amy to create this organization to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of New Hampshire.
