(3BL Media) October 1, 2012 - Madison, WI - Leonardo Academy sponsored a booth at the LCA XII Conference in Tacoma, WA held September 25-27 to inform participants about developments related to the drafting of a new national life cycle assessment (LCA) standard under the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) process. The draft standard is currently in the public comment phase.Visit the Leonardo Academy website to learn more about the process and how to get involved.

This robust, comprehensive and soon-to-be finalized LCA standard is intended to augment the ISO 14044 standard. Entitled “Life Cycle Impact Assessment Framework and Guidance for Establishing Public Declarations and Claims (LEO-SCS-002),” the standard provides detailed guidance for conducting the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) phase, describes the technical requirements for identifying and calculating environmentally relevant indicator results, and provides additional guidance on the iterative process and data quality requirements.

“The new national standard is being written to guide LCA practitioners and users toward a higher level of practice sufficient to support sound decision making and environmental labeling, and raising the bar of environmental transparency,” said Michael Arny, President of Leonardo Academy. “We invite attendees of the LCA XII conference and others to find out more and volunteer if they wish to get involved in the important work of the Standard Committee, or would like to learn more about potential applications of the standard.”

Leonardo Academy is an ANSI accredited standard developer.
