RACINE, Wis., January 17, 2013 /3BL Media/ - As a family company, a strong commitment to community has always been a part of SC Johnson core values. In addition to philanthropic efforts around the world, the company celebrates a strong tie to its local community of Racine, Wis., marking 90 years of giving to the local United Way and more than $50 million in cumulative contributions for the local nonprofit organization.

“Providing local leadership and support to communities -- whether in our hometown of Racine or around the globe -- is part of our DNA,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. “Our ongoing partnership with the United Way of Racine has resulted in new initiatives that fill gaps in community programs that ultimately have a positive impact both our community and its families in need.”

Every year, SC Johnson launches a robust United Way fundraising campaign. Thanks to a company-wide dollar-for-dollar match promise, this year’s total amounted to more than $1.7 million in contributions. The funds are used to help improve lives for many people in the community by supporting priority programs as well as projects in education, health and income.

“Two out of every three families in Racine will benefit from United Way programming during their lifetime – due in large part to the generous funds continuously raised by SC Johnson,” said David Maurer, United Way of Racine County President. “We are honored to mark 90 years of partnership with the company and are grateful for the work they do throughout the Racine community.”

In addition to the nearly century-old relationship with the United Way of Racine, SC Johnson awards grants to a wide variety of organizations of all sizes. In the last five years, the company awarded more than 1,200 small grants totaling $1.1 million. Throughout its 127-year history, the company has also awarded larger scale donations to organizations such as The Nature Conservancy in Brazil, Gateway Technical College in Wis. and the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research. Since 2000, SC Johnson has contributed nearly $250 million globally through grants and product donations.
